History & Characteristics of Girl Scout Cookies Weed

GSC Strain Genetics

The Girl Scout Cookies strain was made from a cross of OG Kush and Durban Poison. The light-green nugs have hints of purple and vibrant orange hairs that sit under a thick layer of trichomes. The aroma of the strain can be described as sweet, chocolate, sour, spicy, and bitter, likely due to the heavy amount of myrcene.

Additionally, it may make you feel happy, giggly, and send you straight into a cerebral high that chills the body. As a result, over 25% of Leafly reviewers of this strain say it helps with stress, depression, and anxiety.

Popular GSC Phenotypes

There are many phenotypic variations of GSC because of its attractive characteristics and popularity. You may have heard of strains such as Thin Mint Cookies or Platinum Girl Scout Cookies, which both continue to gain popularity, further putting the spotlight on the original genetics. Other offspring include Sin Mint Cookies, Samoa Cookies, Animal Cookies, Peppermint Cookies, White Tahoe Cookies, and even Chem Mint Cookies.

The Origins of GSC

The Cookies brand started in California with the help of co-founders Berner and Jai in 2008. Together, with the help of Gilbert Anthony Milam Jr., they created the Girl Scout Cookies strain. After being brought to the Bay Area, the strain became a hit, as many premium strains often do in California. This is because the Golden State has set the bar for quality in kush over the years.

Certainly, the strain became a hit not only because of its potency and flavor but also for the marketing done for the brand. Wiz Khalifa and Berner himself started promoting Cookies strains through their media outlets and music. Berner wore his brand’s merch in music videos and the strain blew up. And quickly, Berner’s brand and name spread across the country.

Girl Scout Controversy

Controversy sparked when the Girl Scouts of America put out a cease and desist to the state of California for the use of their name. Although the lawsuit never saw its day in court, legal states have somewhat made an effort to label products using “GSC” to help the Girl Scouts save face.

What further put the Girl Scouts brand in the minds of stoners is the multiple reports of girls within the organization selling cookies outside of pot shops. Although scouts sell cookies where they individually choose to set up shop, it’s funny that the organization think that the cannabis connection hurts their brand, when it may just get them more sales.
